MEP Design Coordination
Design Development (DD) sets produced through this approach are more precise and cost-effective, significantly reducing expenses during the construction-phase MEP coordination, as much of the work has already been resolved in advance.
With over 18 years of experience in MEP coordination, we support Design Teams by providing early-stage clash detection during the design phase. This forward-thinking approach allows teams to identify and resolve critical issues before they escalate, saving time and money by minimizing costly change orders later in the process. Acting as a BIM extension of the team, we collaborate closely with MEP and Structural engineers, as well as the Architectural team, to deliver effective coordination solutions and integrate value engineering into the design workflow.
MEP Coordination during the Design process
Our BIM Coordination Process Includes:
  • Detailed clash detection and resolution reports.
  • In-depth constructability reviews of MEP systems.
  • Virtual or in-person coordination meetings with architects, engineers, consultants, CMs, and subcontractors.
  • A centralized, easy-to-use project management platform with Gantt charts, RFI logs, email alerts, project schedules, hosted documentation, and team contact lists.
  • Weekly coordination sessions with model updates and full integration across trades — until a fully signed-off, construction-ready model is achieved for shop drawing development.
One of the core goals of Building Information Modeling (BIM) is to ensure physical coordination across all disciplines, enabling accurate, efficient, and conflict-free installation in the field. Our BIM coordination process is purpose-built to support that goal at every stage of construction.
Nova acts as Lead BIM Pre-construction Coordinators, working closely with all project stakeholders to develop a fully integrated, clash-free construction model. Our objective is clear: reduce change orders, eliminate rework, and keep the schedule on track by resolving conflicts early, before they hit the jobsite.
  • Change Order Reduction: Early issue resolution minimizes administrative overhead and delays.
  • Improved Prefabrication: Early coordination enables more off-site fabrication, supporting faster installation and better field logistics.
  • Cost Savings: Detecting clashes and constructability issues before construction begins significantly reduces costly field changes.
  • Competitive Advantage: Better visualizations and well-coordinated models strengthen bids and demonstrate clear design intent.
Key Benefits for General Contractors & Trade Contractors:
VDC/BIM Coordination Services during the Construction process
We also address constructability challenges, including required installation clearances and long-term maintenance access, to ensure smooth, conflict-free construction in the field.
Whether representing a single trade or serving as the Lead Coordinator, we actively manage and facilitate weekly BIM coordination meetings. Our team collaborates closely with all stakeholders to resolve clashes between MEP systems, architectural elements, and structural components.
Nova provides advanced BIM Coordination and Clash Detection Solutions.
Our team of experienced engineers and field detailers brings deep, hands-on expertise across all major trades — Mechanical (Sheet Metal & Piping), Plumbing, Electrical, and Fire Protection. We have a proven track record of delivering models at both LOD 350 and fabrication-ready LOD 400, tailored to meet the specific needs of each trade and construction phase.
MEP BIM Modeling
Our team bridges this gap by creating accurate Architectural and Structural BIM models based on the provided CAD drawings. These models are prepared specifically to support the next steps in the BIM process, ensuring a solid foundation for seamless coordination and clash detection.
In many cases, the Design Team does not provide fully developed Architectural and Structural models — yet these are essential for effective BIM MEP modeling and coordination.
Accurate Architectural and Structural Models for BIM Coordination
This service helps framing contractors and prefab manufacturers reduce on-site waste, improve installation accuracy, and speed up construction timelines. Models are aligned with prefab workflows and can integrate with cut lists, construction schedules, and CNC output files for automated manufacturing.
Models are created in Revit (or other BIM platforms) at LOD 350–400 and include detailed placement of studs, tracks, headers, bracing, and openings. Our framing solutions support both light-gauge steel and wood construction, tailored to meet fabrication and shop drawing requirements.
We develop precise 3D BIM models for prefabricated framing systems — including walls, floors, and roofs — fully coordinated with architectural, structural, and MEP disciplines to ensure clash-free installation and efficient off-site production.
Framing Prefab BIM Modeling
HVAC, plumbing, sprinkler, and electrical drawings
Prepare detailed shop drawings ready for fabrication and field installation, based on coordinated BIM models.
Sleeve drawings
Deliver the sleeve drawing for whole building.
Fabrication drawings
Deliver fabrication-level drawings for sheet metal, piping, and sprinkler systems in compliance with manufacturer specs.
Carpenter drawings
Prepare specialized wall assembly drawings that detail precise framing for utility crossings and electrical outlets, which prevents costly rework, reduces material expenses, and allows carpenters to work ahead of the MEP schedule.
Shop Drawings Development
Perform pressure loss and flow rate calculations to validate the design and performance of fire protection systems, water supply and plumbing systems, stormwater and drainage networks, and pump selection/water boosting systems, ensuring full compliance with applicable codes and standards.
Hydraulic Calculations
We provide a highly accurate Scan to BIM service that converts 3D laser scans (point cloud data) of existing buildings or structures into accurate and intelligent Building Information Models (BIM).
Key Features:
  • Produces as-built Revit models of architecture, structure, and MEP.
  • Based on LiDAR or photogrammetry scans.
  • Used for renovation, retrofit, facility management, and clash-free coordination.
Common Deliverables:
  • LOD 200–LOD 400 BIM models.
  • Floor plans, elevations, sections.
  • Model validation against field conditions.
3D Laser Scanning/Scan to BIM
This service supports AEC firms working on complex BIM projects, as well as manufacturers seeking to integrate their products into design workflows. High-quality, reusable BIM content improves coordination, enhances scheduling and quantity takeoffs, and reduces modeling time. Each family is tested for performance and functionality before delivery.
Common Deliverables:
  • Revit family files (.RFA).
  • Type catalogs (.TXT), if applicable.
  • Usage documentation and support.
High-quality BIM content reduces modeling time, avoids redundancy, and supports interoperability across disciplines. BIM Content helps streamline project workflows from design through construction and facility management.
We develop intelligent, parametric Revit families to support accurate, efficient, and coordinated model development across all project phases. Our content includes mechanical equipment, plumbing fixtures, electrical devices, architectural elements, and structural components — all built to meet project-specific requirements and industry standards.
Families are created at the required Level of Development (LOD 100–400) and include essential geometric and non-geometric data: dimensions, materials, performance specs, and MEP connectors. Each element is tested for functionality and optimized for flexibility — allowing easy adjustment of sizes, types, and visibility settings.
